I came across this video on YouTube that has been making waves in the automotive world. A man named Dan Dolan (he’s a regular on the show) was explaining how he’s been through the process of factory resetting an e6, a BMW motorcycle on the road. During the factory reset process, a user must have their BMW computer run the BMW BMW software to restore the factory settings.
In the video, Dan explains, “It’s like a factory reset for your motorcycle. You buy a new bike, and you take it for a spin. You don’t want to drive it around the block. You want it to be like new so you can go ride it.” The video ends with a reminder to never just reset your motorcycle. It’s not the factory reset, but your bike is reset.
This video was a bit of a let down for me. I mean, it’s a video. But, it was a pretty good reminder to not just reset your motorcycle to factory settings. The part where the user takes their bike for a spin and drives it around the block wasn’t exactly a nice experience. And then there’s the part where the user is told to never reset their bike. I had no idea that there were so many problems with the BMW software.
I don’t believe this is a common problem with BMWs, but sometimes you just get to hear that message. BMW software is the software that lets you change the engine’s oil temperature, engine oil viscosity, oil pressure, and clutch pressure. It is an important part of your motorcycle’s safety systems, but it is sometimes poorly implemented.
So, the message is: Never reset your bike! This is because BMW software is so incredibly unreliable that it can reset your bike once, and then again in a few hours, when you just decide to forget you did. The latest update released in July fixed this problem, but the problem of software updates that don’t always work is still a problem. There’s a bug where BMW software sometimes freezes your computer. I’ve seen this happen to my computer when it has been working fine.
This is a problem with the BMW E46, E46M, and E46X. Ive talked about this in BMW forums, but no one seems to have responded. So when the dealerships tell you that they have the same problem, it’s because they don’t have the software update. I’m not surprised because if you read the forums, BMW forums are full of BMW owners complaining about it. It’s a symptom of the software problem.
If you have these three cars plus the E46X, the fix is to download the BMW software update. I personally just call BMW and they tell me to send it to my house. Since the dealers arent the only ones with BMW software problems, this may be the only way to fix it.
While it is possible for a BMW owner to have a car that is running perfectly fine but the software is not updating, it is not actually possible for the dealer to do that, since they are required to update the software on their own. If you need to get the software update, you should call BMW. The fix is to call BMW and send them the update, then call BMW again and confirm your car is going to be updated.
While this is the easiest fix for dealers, you should still call BMW and ask for the fix. If you send a letter to the dealership, they may not respond to you. However, you should still go to the BMW website, visit the customer service page, and call. Again, if you send them a letter, you should have a chance to speak with a person in customer service who may be able to help you.
