I know it is an ungodly long list and you are probably going to get bored halfway through, so I want to say a huge thank you to all of the people that took the time to leave comments for this post. It has been a long and hard road to get this post up. I am so grateful for the feedback and it has allowed me to become better and better at writing.
I feel like everyone is doing this for the same reason. The end goal of this is to help people understand the concepts behind the various pieces of software that we use daily. The way we think about programming is different than the way we think about our food. When we are programming, we are thinking in terms of loops and if-else statements. When we are dealing with food, we are thinking about how to make our food taste good.
I like to think that programming is a little bit like food, we all want good food, but we all know that not everybody wants that same good food every single day. When you say something in programming, you’re saying to the computer: “I need this feature A, and I need that feature B.
The way I think about inukshuk is that it is a kind of a language of food. Each part of the dog food is a recipe that can be customized, and each one has a recipe number. So whenever I want to make a particular part of the food, I can just say, “I want to make number 9 of this recipe, please send me the recipe number and I will make it.
This is really cool technology that is so user-friendly you can just say, “I want to make this recipe,” and it will make the exact same food in the exact same exact way that you would make it in a real life kitchen.
You can see the whole recipe system up on GitHub.
This is a really cool recipe system, and I’ve had to make it a lot of times in the past, but there is one little problem. It’s a lot harder to make a recipe of just one flavor, let alone 10 or even 20. So I have a little trick I learned from one of my favorite cookbooks. If you want to make something for a specific recipe number, just add a “-11” at the end of the recipe number.
I used to know about this trick, but I haven’t used it in a long time. It’s pretty much the exact same idea. As far as I know, this means that if you want to make a recipe for a specific recipe number, you can just add an 11 at the end of the recipe number. So if you want to make a recipe of two, you can just make the second one like this for two.
It’s really not as hard as it may sound. I’ve read that there are thousands of recipes that don’t have the -11 and it makes it so much easier. Of course, those recipes are probably a lot more common than the ones that have it. It’s basically just adding an 11 to the end of the recipe number. Just be ready to be surprised when a recipe comes along that doesn’t have the -11.
