I think it is true that food is not real to us until the person eating it has told us they have eaten it before, and even then, it’s only for a very brief moment. The best we can do is to try new things and try to avoid foods that are not good for us and that we’ve tried before.
As we discovered in our study of eating habits, there are various types of foods that people are more likely to eat than others. We found a link between the frequency of food consumption and the likelihood of a given food being a “good” one. This is not terribly surprising to me, as we tend to be more health-conscious than our ancestors.
