I was in a meeting and all of a sudden I had to leave my phone in the car. I had to stop and call for a ride. I couldn’t stop thinking about the food. The thought of sitting down to a meal with friends, family, and a date took a backseat of my mind. I couldn’t stop eating. I had to leave the meeting.
I get it. So many food addicts will go on a food bender and spend the next few months in denial. But for others, the food bender is a temporary thing. For me, it’s been a year of addiction. And I’m not alone. Almost a third of the population is food-addicted.
That’s not to say everyone who is addicted to food is a food addict. Just like you might not suffer from a serious food addiction, you don’t need to be addicted to food to be a food addict. It could be that you are a food addict because you love food so much that you are addicted to food. For a person who loves eating more than anything else, it’s not hard to see where food addiction could come from.
For a lot of people, it doesnt seem like Im not a food addict. For a person who likes sweets and food, Im not a food addict.
When you are addicted to food (and especially food that comes in packages), you are in a constant state of “food-as-a-drug.” That is, you don’t have a hard time getting what you need even when you are really hungry. If you had an addiction to food as a kid, you may not even be aware you have one.
One of the ways we can see why food addiction can be so addictive is because we don’t realize the impact of how we eat. When you are addicted to food, you eat more food than you need. Not because you are hungry, no, it is because you are addicted to food. And food is one of those things you can’t really hide.
So how do you quit? By learning not to eat, or by learning how to cook. For example, you may want to eat food that you dont know you like. If you dont like how it looks, you can cook it, or you can use a recipe that uses it. Even if you have a hard time quitting, you can look around and find other addicts who have successfully quit.
That’s not to say you should eat anything that you dont like. You can just ignore it. But you can also cook it how you like. If you want to be fancy and eat things you dont want, you can make a special version of it. If you use a recipe or a combination of recipes that you dont like, you can try to cook it yourself. For example, you might use a recipe that is not on the internet (like this one).
If you don’t like it, you can cook it yourself. The problem is that if you dont like a recipe that exists online, you dont know where to look. The best thing to do is to make your own recipe if you dont like the one you have. That way you can make a lot of different things. You can make a recipe without ingredients, just substituting them for other ingredients.
